The
DSA Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I take my car theory test before my 17th birthday?
- No. You can only take your theory test once your provisional licence
becomes valid. For a car this will be your 17th birthday. You can, however book
your theory test before your 17th birthday. Candidates in receipt of Disability
Mobility Allowance at the higher rate may take their theory test before their
17th birthday as long as they have a valid provisional licence.
- What if I can’t find my driving licence and my car practical test is due?
- You can not take the driving test. You will need
to request a duplicate driving licence from
the DVLA on 0870 240 0009 and depending on when
you will receive this, you may need to cancel
or rebook the driving test by calling the DSA on
0870 0101 372.
- Charges: DSA: if you don't
provide 3 working days notice £48.50 + DVLA
fee for duplicate £19.00.
- Check www.dsa.gov.uk
and www.dvla.gov.uk
- What documents do I need to take to the practical test?
- You will need to take your photocard licence,
paper counterpart and
theory test certificate
to
the test centre.
If you have an old-style paper licence you will also need to take a suitable
form of photographic identity like your Passport .
